The Hunchback of Notre Dame

Today, I will talk about a animated-feature of my childhood, The Hunchback of Notre Dame.

It's an American animated musical drama-romance film produced by Walt Disney Feature Animation. The film is based on Victor Hugo's novel of the same name. This movie focuses on Quasimodo, the deformed bell-ringer of Notre Dame and who wants to be accepted in society.

The main characters are :

This movie is very important for me. Indeed, when I was little, I watched it all the time, and often on Mondays with my Dad. I had too the Esmeralda Barbie dolls :

Then, I saw the musical The Hunchback of Notre Dame, in 2000. Popular songs from the show, were Belle and Le temps des cathédrales. The cast (in France) was consisted of Helene Segara (Esmeralda), Garou (Quasimodo), Daniel Lavoie (Frollo) and Patrick Fiori (Phoebus).

The Victor Hugo's novel inspired many movies, musicals... because the story is very important. She learns us that not trust appearances. For example, Quasimodo isn't beautiful physically, but he is a very an extraordinary person. This story shows us also that the wickedness can hurt more than the violence.

A word to the wise is enough (à bon entendeur... ?)

Hansel and Gretel

Hansel and Gretel is a tale written by the Grimm Brothers and published in 1812.
This tale focuses on a brother (Hansel) and a sister (Gretel). Lost by their parents in the forest, the two children discover a house made of cakes and sweets. Inside, there is cannibalistic witch who kidnaps them.
But Gretel saves her life and her brother by pushing the witch into the oven. They return with their parents.

In 2013, this tale was adapted.
Indeed, this movie co-written and directed by Norwegian filmmaker Tommy Wirkola is based on the Grimm Brothers's tale and tells the activity of the children who have become adults, 15 years later. They are famous witch hunters who travel the small villages in search of devilish witches. During the movie, they look for reported missing children, kidnapped by witches. I was going to tell you the end but I leave you the surprise, given that it's very interesting ! Ahah

My personal opinion :
I liked this adaptation very much ! Indeed, this movie is a mixture between action, love and humor. The special effects were surprising and the witches were very well represented.
To sum up, it's a very good movie !

A 55-word Gothic Story

Hello !
Today, I will talk about an activity in English literature.

In a first time, I will explain the Gothic movement :
The Gothic movement is a genre of literature, of XVIII century, which mixes horror and romance. Gothicism's origin is attributed to the novel The Castle of Otranto, written in 1764 by the English author Horace Walpole.

The 55-word  activity is inspired by an American literary competition in which the participants have to write very short story (55 words). The best of them are then published. It is an "exercise in literary minimalism", which requires imagination and concision, but can be quite amusing.

With my friend Andréa (her blog : http://andreeasrl.blogspot.fr/ ) we wrote it :
" A summer night, in a deserted park, Elizabeth was reading and Jenny, her daughter, was on the swing. Suddenly, the creaking sound of the swing stopped. Disturbing silence. Jenny had disappeared ! She began to look for the little girl when she saw Jenny's ball roll to her feet.
It was Jenny's head, cut. "

Our story is very horrible is true, but we taken some pleasure to realised this 55-word during this activity !

Dracula

Hello !

                                                               File:Dracula1st.jpeg

Do you know Dracula ? The mythical vampire created by Bram Stoker in a novel published in 1897.
A vampire is an immortal person who needs to drink blood to live.

After the success of this novel, the vampire was used in many things. Other novels, movies, TV series, video games... The vampire is a star !

I am going to speak to you about my favorite by-products of Dracula : Dracula, my love written by Syrie James and published in 2010.
This novel is the story of Dracula, told by Mina Harker, the wife of Jonathan Harker. This version of Dracula is my favorite because it's mainly a love story and this story makes me dream. Besides, this novel is perfectly written, I can put myself in the skin of Mina !

Then, my favorite TV series of vampire is "The Vampire Diaries", based on the novels "The Vampire Diaries" written by L.J. Smith.
In this series, there are beautiful actors ! Like Ian Somerhalder, which interprets Damon Salvator, a vampire. This story is full of surprises and of suspense. A real pleasure !

This week, I saw extracts from the most famous movie of Dracula, by Francis Ford Coppola (1992) in English literature for the first time. The count is really ugly when he is with Jonathan !

Finally, in 2012, the movie "Dark Shadow" realised by Tim Burton was released. This movie tells the story of a vampire
Barnabas which wakes up in 1972 after 200 years... A good comic moment ! (and a good moment with Johnny Depp !)

Oh ! and my subject of TPE is "Dracula and the evolution of vampires" ;)
